Signing of the Transportation Bill
On Friday, July 6, 2012, COMTO leaders Dr. Kendra Taylor with CH2M Hill, Greer Gillis with Parsons Brinckerhoff, Freddie Fuller with Cubic and I, Robert Prince with AECOM were afforded the opportunity to represent our organization at President Obama’s signing of the Transportation Bill in the East Wing of the White House.

As I reflected on the event, I felt tremendous pride that COMTO was invited among the "who’s who” of Congress, labor, state and local governments, and other advocacy organizations.  Seated only a few feet from the President’s podium, our leadership sat in close proximity with FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff, FHWA Administrator Victor Mendes and APTA CEO Michael Melaniphy.

My COMTO colleagues and I were honored, to say the least.  Those in attendance represented the true spirit of the public and private sectors.  I can’t help but believe we all reflected on and appreciated the number of jobs saved and those to be created as our nation moves to rebuild its infrastructure.

Last, but not least, for COMTO, we also know that our influence to help ensure a place at the table for our Historically Underutilized Businesses is greater now than ever before. The signing of the bill is a catalyst to ensure they are also represented on transportation projects.

I am grateful for having had the opportunity to witness this historic event and proud to be a COMTO member.
