Letter From the President & CEO

Dear COMTO Family,

Thank you all for your support of our 46th National Meeting & Training Conference: Smart Transportation - The Next Frontier hosted by COMTO Michigan in the great city of Detroit from July 14-18. We welcomed nearly 700 industry professionals to our annual event composed of more than 50 workshops, forums, symposiums, panel discussions and technical tours that addressed today's most pressing questions facing the transportation industry. Additionally, we offered over 20 continuing education courses to advance members' personal and professional development, with topics ranging from best practices to future transportation solutions.

Highlights include:
  • Legislative Luncheon featuring former USDOT Secretaries of Transportation, Hon. Rodney E. Slater and Hon. James H. Burnley, IV
  • Industry Excellence Award presented to Edward Welburn Jr., who held the highest-ranking position as an African American in the auto industry
  • Detroit Welcome Reception held at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
  • Youth Symposium hosted by local partners Wayne State University and Toyota, bringing together close to 100 local youth to learn about careers in transportation

We were thrilled to welcome our 2017 CITY Interns to the COMTO family. We awarded over $100,000 in scholarships during the National Scholarship Luncheon and recognized the stellar achievements of our members, Chapters and industry leaders at the Industry Awards banquet.

Hundreds of volunteer hours went into creating this conference and I would like to take this opportunity to give a special thank you to Conference Chair Kimberly Avery and her dedicated team of organizers from COMTO Michigan. We are also thankful to our National Chair Warren Montague, whose leadership of COMTO we depend on and value.

Finally, I wish to offer our sincere gratitude to all of our national, local, and program sponsors for making this event a success. We look forward to working with you again in the future.

On behalf of COMTO's National Board and staff, thank you again for your generous support. We could not have done this without you and look forward to seeing you for our 47th National Meeting & Training Conference in Baltimore, MD from July 28-August 1, 2018!
