Tanya Adams has 29 years of experience with diversity initiatives and recruitment/outreach. As the Assistant Vice President, Community Relations & Diversity Manager for WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, she advocates for minority business involvement in both the engineering and business communities and on WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff’s contracts. She is actively involved in diversity initiatives with community organizations, serving alongside many minority business partners, and she develops and directs both internal and external programs to meet business diversity needs. Tanya’s personal objective is to see the diverse faces of America equally reflected at all levels of the transportation industry, and she has devoted her career to serving as an advocate and a resource to minority individuals and businesses, keeping minority issues at the forefront of current and emerging transportation industry trends. She has performed outreach in the minority communities and with minority-owned businesses since 1987.
Tanya has been actively involved in COMTO since 2007 having served as a member of the Corporate Advisory Council, Joint Leadership Team, Women Who Move the Nation Committee, the Program Planning Committee, and most recently the National Board. Tanya’s past involvement with COMTO, along with her personal objectives and work in the minority transportation community, allows Tanya to show the strategic thinking necessary to continue to advance COMTO’s mission, reaching new audiences and inspiring others to advocate for these same goals.
In 2015, Tanya became the first African American woman to be elected to the board of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Illinois. In addition, she served as the Chair of ACEC’s Students Engaged in Engineering Committee for 10 years, actively engaging and fostering an interest in the transportation industry among students. She has also been involved in the Innovations Conference on Asphalt and Transportation (ICAT) on the Board of Directors and as Chairwoman of the ICAT- DBE Focus Group, as well as EEO committee member for the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association (IRTBA).
Tanya has been involved in the transportation industry throughout her entire career. Prior to joining WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, Ms. Adams was employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for more than 18 years. She started her career as a Graduate Public Service Intern through the University of Illinois at Springfield in District Six and moved to District One after completing her Master’s Degree in Public Administration in 1990. In this position, she worked on recruitment and community efforts across the state.
