National Scholarships

The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) offers a variety of scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $7,500 to deserving minority students nationwide with a career interest in transportation and related fields. Selections are made annually by a team of industry professionals and representatives from academia. The National Scholarship Program supports the mission of COMTO by promoting, strengthening, and expanding the roles of minorities in all aspects of transportation. See below for a complete list of all available scholarships and applicant eligibility requirements.

COMTO NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Atkins North America Achievement Scholarship - $5,000

 

Applicant eligibility requirements:

  1. Enrolled in the field of Transportation, Engineering, Planning, or a related discipline
  2. Undergraduate student with a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours 


  

Carmen E. Turner Scholarship - $3,500

 

Applicant eligibility requirements:

  1. A COMTO member in good standing for (1) one year.
  2. An undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in a minimum of (6) six credit hours
  3. Enrolling as an undergraduate student in the coming Fall academic term at an accredited institution of higher education
  4. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale


  

CH2M Industry Partner Scholarship - $3,000

 

Applicant eligibility requirements:

  1. A graduating high school student or an undergraduate student
  2. Enrolled in an engineering program for the coming Fall academic term at an accredited institution of higher education
  3. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  4. Studies must be focused in the field of transportation.  


  

First Transit Scholarship - $6,000

Infrastructure Engineering Scholarship - $2,500

Jacobs Engineering Scholarship - $3,000

 

Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. An undergraduate junior or senior, or a graduate student, at an accredited institution of higher education, studying in the field of transportation. Transportation fields include: Transportation, Planning, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Safety, Urban Planning, Construction Engineering, or other related disciplines
    2. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the undergraduate level, or 3.5 on a 4.0 scale at the graduate level
    3. An active COMTO member with dedicated community service


          

    Julie Cunningham Legacy Scholarship - $7,500 

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. Graduate student/ PhD candidate currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
    2. Former COMTO CITY Intern
    3. Enrolled in the field of transportation or related studies with an interest in leadership in transportation
    4. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    5. Demonstrated strong leadership skills 
    6. Active commitment to community service and diversity 
    7. Demonstrated commitment to COMTO on a local or national level 
    8. Available for full time internship with partner organizations


          

    LTK Engineering Scholarship - $6,000  

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. An undergraduate student entering their junior or senior year, or a graduate student enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) semester credits, at an accredited college/university in the coming Fall semester
    2. Pursuing a degree in Engineering or other technical transportation-related discipline
    3. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    4. An active COMTO member, or must agree to become a COMTO member within thirty (30) days of scholarship award


          

    North Carolina A&T State University Matching Scholarship - $3,000

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. NCA&T student in the field of transportation. Transportation fields include: Transportation, Supply Chain and Logistics, Safety, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental disciplines, or a transportation-related discipline.
    2. NCA&T undergraduate student who will be in his/her junior or senior year with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the award period, or graduate student with a minimum grade point average of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale during the award period


          

    Rosa L. Parks Scholarship - $4,500

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. A student at an accredited institution of higher education, studying in the field of transportation
    2. Undergraduate student with a minimum of 60 semester credit hours or a Master’s candidate with a minimum of 15 credits
    3. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale


          

    Trailblazer Scholarship - $2,500

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. A COMTO member in good standing for (1) one year.
    2. An undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in a minimum of (6) six credit hours
    3. Enrolling as an undergraduate student in the coming Fall academic term at an accredited institution of higher education
    4. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale


          

    Thomas G. Neusom Scholarship - $5,500

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. A COMTO member in good standing for (1) one year.
    2. An undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in a minimum of (6) six credit hours
    3. Enrolling as an undergraduate student in the coming Fall academic term at an accredited institution of higher education
    4. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale


          

    WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Scholarships

     

    Engineering Scholarship - $2,500

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. A COMTO member in good standing for (1) one year.
    2. Enrolling as an undergraduate student in the coming Fall academic term at an accredited institution of higher education, majoring in an Engineering field
    3. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

    Golden Apple Scholarship - $2,500

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. A graduating high school student
    2. A COMTO member, or parent(s) must be COMTO members.
    3. Accepted at an accredited institution of higher education
    4. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale upon graduation from high school
    5. Express a desire to work in the field of transportation.

    Women in Leadership Scholarship - $3,000

     

    Applicant eligibility requirements:

    1. A female student pursuing a Master’s degree in the field of Civil Engineering or related studies, with interest in leadership in transportation
    2. Enrolled full time at an accredited institution of higher education or an ABET accredited Civil Engineering Program 
    3. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    4. Demonstrated strong leadership skills
    5. Active commitment to community service and diversity 

      

    2017 DATES 

    • Application open: December 1, 2016
    • Application deadline: March 31, 2017
    • Applicant notification: June 1, 2017
    • COMTO National Conference in Detroit, MI: July 14-17, 2017 (Some awardees may be asked to attend the Annual Scholarship Luncheon, held during the annual Conference.)
    • Award checks mailed to colleges/universities: August 1, 2017
