COMTO is saddened at the passing of the Honorable Marion Barry, Jr. The former Washington, DC Mayor accomplished so much on behalf of DC residents. Not only did he empower the District's youth to be successful by helping them to get jobs, he created a path for tremendous economic development for the District as a whole. The Verizon Center arose under his leadership. Barry was a tireless advocate, working on behalf of minority individuals and businesses to level the playing field. His work brought sweeping changes to our nation's capital and how it conducts business, fueling new contract opportunities for disadvantaged businesses. His work and his life were impactful. He made a difference. COMTO salutes Mayor Barry's legacy and thanks him for his years of service.
Founded in 1971 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC, the Conference Of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) was created to provide a forum for senior-level minority professionals in the transportation industry.
