Dear COMTO Members,

Last Tuesday, at the invitation of President-Elect Barack Obama's Transition Team, COMTO Board Member Robert Prince, Jr. and I met with the Agency Working Group assigned to the Department Of Transportation (DOT). During the meeting, we had the opportunity to present COMTO's position on three of our main initiatives:  1) Workforce Diversity In Transportation, 2) Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) and 3) Emergency Preparedness for Vulnerable Populations.  We met with Transition Team members Mort Downey, Michael Huerta and Victor Mendez.  Bob and I believe the meeting was very effective and certainly very timely.

By now, many of you are aware that Julie Cunningham, our President & CEO, has been on a leave of absence from COMTO working with the  Transition Team/Agency Working Group assigned to the DOT.  In this capacity Julie is working with fifteen (15) other team members to perform a thorough agency review of the DOT in order to help effect a smooth assumption of control by the new administration. The team lead is Mort Downey, consultant with Parsons Brinckerhoff and former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation.  I know you are as excited as I am about Julie's opportunity to serve President-Elect Obama in this very early stage.  We know that she will serve our country well.
